What is LIBIDO?
Libido as concept taken from the psychoanalisis (Zygmund Freud) and in simple words it stands for sexual drive and life force.
The sexual activity among people over 60 years of age is completely normal (and possible), which is hard to believe for today’s society, dominated by the cult of youth and the image of an "anorectic" model.
Scientific researches have proven that:
- Between 57 and 64 year old people, 84% of men and about 65% of women is sexually active;
- In the group aged 65 – 74, sexually active is 67% of men and over 40% of women;
- And in the group aged 75 – 84 years old, it is 40% and 17% of men and women respectively that remain sexually active.
It clearly proves the presence of high sexual activity in the periods of the "second" and even the "third" youth!
These statistics can be even better but they are messed up by sexual inability caused not only by the natural aging process but, above all, by our neglection of our organisms.
The big impact on LIBIDO in women belongs to certain disorders.
Libido disorders in women are a commonly occuring phenomena and they can occur at every age.
It is estimated that about 30% of softer sex has libido disorders.
Generally, libido disorders in women are of very complex and multifactorial character and it is very rare to find just one cause.
The complex nature of libido disorders in women often requires a holistic (overall) treatment. Unfortunately, a pharmacological tratment is chosen too often and too hasty, without deeper understanding of the causes.
The physiological period when the women’s sexual drive decreases is menopause.
Menopause causes hormonal changes in natural way, which lead to:
hot flashes, ,sleeping problems, night sweats, reduction of muscle mass and fat tissue build up, decreased bone density, and finally decreased libido. The issue is additionally complicated if women suffer from different diseases or if they had surgeries in the past (especially gynecological and bowel operations). In menopause and after it, the reduced production of estrogens and androgens (women also have testosterone!) can be observed – it is also one of the causes of the smaller sexual drive.
Despite the age, LIBIDO in WOMEN and also in man is seriously endangered by so called: LIBIDO KILLERS.
The second thing after the menopause that decreases women’s libido are the states of depression and taking of antidepressant drugs, which reduce the libido as a side effect (these drugs are swallowed with abandon; in some countries, these pills are eaten with coffee during breakfast as if they were vitamins!).
LIBIDO KILLERS destroy women’s libido at every age - nondetected or poorly treated diabetes, stress, obesity with hypertension, lack of physical activities, nicotine or mental and sexuological disorders are the silent LIBIDO KILLERS.
